The Buddy System's only music video, filmed in 1986 to accompany the release of their 2nd single (which sounded absolutely nothing like their 1st single), the clip found its way onto a former music television network that decided there was more money to be had broadcasting 24/7 marathons of inspiring youths in New Jersey who all suffer from a debilitating condition that has caused their skin to turn orange. An entry in the January 1-2, 1987 episode of "Basement Tapes," "Go Back to Hollywood" won its month and received 4 plays on "120 Minutes" in its full-length version -- including the lengthy "band got lost" intro seen here -- as its reward.
So named for founding member Buddy Judge (spikey hair), The Buddy System hailed from Boston. After their win, the band signed to Posh Boy/Chameleon where they released a self-titled album in 1988 containing "Go Back", along with a 3rd -- impossible-to-find -- single before dropping off the face of the earth. Judge would be seen on "120 Minutes" at least one more time several years later. His next, L.A. based, group, The Grays, went all the way to the majors and received rotation on the show in 1994 with the video for their debut single, "Very Best Years". Their Sony/Epic album, "Ro Sham Bo," included another single, "Not Long for This World," which pretty much said it all.
